Experience:

Duties:
Shoot and edit videotape of news, sports, and special features for news broadcasts; display high journalistic standards; work creatively with reporters and producers to package news stories for broadcast; set up, shoot, and edit video tape for live shots; coordinate with reporters in the field; organize tapes for news broadcasts; operate all editing and recording equipment; set up ENG vans for live remotes; stay in contact with Assignment Desk and Field Reporter; effectively communicate ideas for specific assignments; work with other departments to ensure smooth presentation; perform other related duties as assigned by news management.

DUTIES:          
KATU seeks a newsroom manager to supervise our morning team.   Duties include: working with other news managers and staff members to create a unified vision for the morning newscast.  Providing input and constructive oversight on story selection and presentation.  Reviewing scripts for accuracy and balance.  Coordinating an aggressive response to breaking news.  Planning for coverage related to the morning news, including coverage of special events, live remotes, and in-studio guests.   Coordinating with promotions department to maximize opportunities to promote the morning newscast.   Providing feedback to producers, anchors, reporters and photographers on how to improve the on-air product.  Supervising technical staff and addressing issues related to the production of the newscast. Candidate must have strong communication and leadership skills, and a demonstrated ability to produce newscasts above and beyond the morning news “wheel”.  Other duties as assigned by News Director. 
Position is available January 1, 2009.
           
QUALIFICATIONS:                 
·         Four years of news producing experience, or two years as a news manager in a medium to large television market preferred.
·         Bachelor degree or equivalent preferred.
·         Must have a valid driver's license to use a company vehicle during course of news gathering.
·         Knowledge of non-linear editing systems essential
·         Typing and an operating knowledge of standard news computer systems.
·         History of award winning journalism preferred
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
·         Must be able to write, speak clearly, read, hear and see (with or without corrective devices) in order to produce news stories for visual presentation on the air.
·         Must be able to work weekends and accommodate shift changes including working extended hours.

Gather interviews for news stories as required.  Perform other duties as assigned.
 
QUALIFICATION:
1.      College degree or equivalent work experience in production or similar work. 
2.      Working knowledge of television news photography and technology.
3.      Must be able to shoot with professional video equipment and edit under deadline pressure.
4.      Must have valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
5.      Must be a team player and able to work with a variety of people.
6.      Ability to work flexible shifts with short notice that include nights and weekends when needed.
7.      Fluency in English and Spanish both written and verbal is required.
8.      Basic knowledge of graphic programs is required.
